Black Mountain Revisited   12 comments

August Bank Holiday and sunshine forecast, who’d have thought! Me and TJS took off for the hills and my classic Black Mountain circuit. I’ve posted this walk many times so I’ll let the pictures do most of the talking

Rather than waste time at home we had breakfast a short walk from the car. Bacon sandwiches in the open air is taste much better than in the kitchen

We stopped for a second lunch by the tarn. Despite this being a sunny Bank Holiday these hills are always relatively quiet. Dread to think how many people would have been on Pen y Fan

    • One my most favourite places for a walk. I love the two tarns as well, cupped in the mountains under those sharp edges. I do this walk at least once a year for obvious reasons🙂

  3. In terms of dramatic scenery is this your finest local walk would you say? It’s inexplicable that’s it’s quiet – the views are amazing.

    • Good question! Thinking about it I’d say it is. The edges to the west of Pen-y-Fan is also rather good and has waterfalls instead of lakes. This one just edges it for variety and those dazzling blue lakes although Cribyn is my favourite South Wales summit. I’ve no idea why its so quiet. There were a few people on this day but bear in mind it was August Bank Holiday Monday on a sunny day and its not terribly remote from Cardiff or Swansea. Like most areas outside the Lakes everyone heads for the “classic” mountains (down here its Pen-y-Fan) and ignores everywhere else. Their loss
